As you may be aware, Andrew Jones was injured while competing in the Welsh Championships. The details are unclear but I believe that he fell awkwardly and was very unfortunate to severely damage his leg.
Andrew was taken to Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, where he was admitted with a badly broken leg, dislocated ankle and damaged ligaments.
On Sunday he underwent surgery during which a metal plate was inserted into his leg to repair the broken bone, and several screws were inserted into his ankle to keep it in place as the ligaments repair themselves. His condition is stable and when I last saw him (post op), despite being in pain, he was enjoying the self-administratable morphine and was able to look on the lighter side of life – as usual.
Our sympathies go out to Andrew and we all wish him a speedy recovery. It’s hoped that he will be transferred to Bronglais (Aberystwyth) in a week or so.
I will keep the club informed through the website - Sensei
