Torbay 2006

Torbay 2006

Training Course

Every year a large group from Tekki go to Torbay to train with the best instructors in the KUGB.

Yet another Torbay has come and gone in the blink of an eye. We were extremely lucky with the weather and fully enjoyed the “English Rivera”.  The training was absolutely excellent as always, with Sensei Sherry giving the most memorable session of the week, with an awesome display of both speed and technique – in these small moments it's easy to see why he is the natural head of our organisation.

Highlights:-

We took everybody to watch Ice Age 2 – very amusing film. Not sure who is the funniest; the squirrel or Gloria who I had the joy of sitting next to…

The course social evening was well attended and as usual we formed protective circles to avoid talking to people we don't know (see previous Torbay write up for more detail about this type of behaviour). This year we had a special competition which involved talking to as many people as possible and keeping count. The jury is still out about whether John cheated but until such a ruling John will be crowned “super sociable instructor”.

It was nice to catch up with Kimberley May, an ex-tekki member from many, many years ago. Even better, after a week of persuasian we convinced her to compete in our kumite team for the National Championships !!!

As usual we went bowling, which after all these years is just an excuse for the secret bowling group (which must exist otherwise how are some tekki members so good?) to show off their skills.  People were either amazing or completely rubbish. I will let you guess who was in which category.

After 15 years of going to Torbay we finally went on the stream train that runs past the caravan park.  It was a nice trip but  in my opinion was a slightly extreme way of getting an ice cream.

Have a look at the collection of photos below to get a small flavour of Toraby 2006 !
